Larkin benefitted from a fortuitous home-field bounce in the bottom of the eighth inning as it notched an improbable 4-3 Upstate Eight River victory against rival Elgin on Thursday. The Royals rallied to overcome deficits in both the seventh and eighth innings.

NOTEBOOK: Dundee-Crown senior Jake Romano enters the month of May with 35 hits in 65 at-bats, which is good for a robust .538 batting average. The Miami of Ohio recruit also leads the Chargers with 19 stolen bases, 18 RBI, 13 runs scored and seven doubles.
Golf: Elgin courses receive high marks from Golfweek
Golfweek magazine produced a state-by-state ranking of the top public courses last month, and two of Elgin’s city-owned tracks finished in the top 10 among the 15 courses on the Illinois list. The Highlands of Elgin came in with the No. 2 ranking while Bowes Creek Country Club landed the No. 8 ranking.
