Pitcher Alex Doty was backed by a solid offensive output, leading Elgin past crosstown rival Larkin 8-0 on Thursday night at Trout Park in an Upstate Eight River encounter. The Maroons avoided a three-game series sweep with the triumph.

The Big Northern Conference voted Thursday to expand to 16 members beginning in the 2014-15 school year, or perhaps before, adding Johnsburg and Dixon. Johnsburg returns after leaving the league in 2006.
